Rick Scott Says he's Open to Replacing Mitch McConnell as Leader

Share

Prior to the midterm elections, The Floridians had floated the idea that Florida Senator Rick Scott, who heads up the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), could be positioned to be the next Senate Majority Leader if Republicans win control of the U.S. Senate.

Now that Democrats have retained control of the upper chamber, Republican Senators like Sen. Scott, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz, are calling for the upcoming leadership vote to be postponed, and now Scott is saying that he is interested in the job.

During an interview last Sunday with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo, Sen Scott said that Senate Republican Leadership did not have a plan.

“It doesn’t make any sense. I’ve been up here four years. What is our plan? What are we running on, what do we stand for? There is no plan to do that. The leadership in the Republican Senate cannot have a plan, we are just going to run on how bad the Democrats are, then they cave into the Democrats,” said Sen. Scott.

When asked if he would take the job as Senate Minority Leader, Scott stated,”  I’m not going to take anything off the table.”

Days earlier, Sen. Rubio’s statement calling for a postponement of the vote and questioning of Sen. McConnell’s commitment to “working Americans” turned the Senate on its head.

“The Senate GOP leadership vote next week should be postponed First we need to make sure that those who want to lead us are genuinely committed to fighting for the priorities & values of the working Americans (of every background) who gave us big wins in states like Florida,” stated Sen. Rubio

Sen. Rubio’s statement was nothing less than a vote of no confidence against Minority Leader McConnell. McConnell will not become Majority Leader but appears to be trying to rush the vote to keep his job as Minority Leader.
