Rep. Cammack Promises Impeachment for Mayorkas

Share

With a new gained majority in the House of Representatives, many Republicans have been eager to show to the country what they are going to do with the control of the lower chamber. And while Republicans have called for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign, now there are possible plans to impeach him, should the resignation not come to fruition. Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) is one of those Republicans promising that circumstance.

When asked about this possibility in an interview on Fox Business, Rep. Cammack put all her cards out on display.

“Absolutely, I think all options are on the table. When you have lied to Congress, you’ve lied to the American people, you have, quite frankly ignored the fact that there is a humanitarian, a national security and public health crisis playing out on the southwest border; you have either been negligent in your duties or you have just chosen not to do them…and if Alehjandro Mayorkas does not step down before January 3rd, then we will take those investigations and we will lay the groundwork for impeachment,” stated Rep. Cammack.

However, those who defend Mayorkas have stated that the southern border is just one of many of the issues that the Homeland Security Secretary has to worry about, and that this one issue does not constitute grounds for impeachment. Cammack called the rebuttal “ridiculous.”

“The Homeland Security Secretary is charged with the national security of this nation, its homeland security. And when you have an open border that is open entirely at the will of this administration. That’s just unacceptable,” said Rep. Cammack.

“For him to say that he has many hats, and this is just one of them while he takes full responsibility because he is in fact the Secretary of Homeland Security. And he told me that the buck stops with him and it’s going to,” Cammack later stated in the interview.

With recent border crossings at an all-time high and 98 of those crossings being people included on the terrorist watch list, change could be coming in Washington.
