Donalds Officially Announces Run for House GOP Conference Chair

Share

Though the midterms are over in Florida, bringing with it an astounding victory for Republicans, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL-19) is just getting started. In a recent tweet, Donalds officially announces his intention to run for GOP House Conference Chairman. He says in his tweet that he is "championing Conservative Principles and Ushering In a New Republican Perspective to GOP House Leadership. I have an announcement."

His video is a mix of Donalds' appearances on various news programs and footage from the House floor. In one of his speeches featured, Donalds says "I, like Mr. [Burgess] Owens, stand on the shoulders of Black Americans who came before us to fight hurdles and glass ceilings, but still rose to the halls of Congress, or to the highest echelons of our history."

Other speeches interspersed into the video showcase some of Donalds' most fiery moments and praises from various individuals, concluding with him saying that "I think that we should have a strong conservative in the leadership role to help guide House Republicans in the 118th Congress so we can actually get America back on track."

As compelling as his announcement video is, Fox News notes that it will be an uphill battle for Donalds against Elise Stefanik (R-NY), especially because former President Donald Trump has given her his blessing. Donalds nonetheless remains optimistic, saying that "I think that there are a lot of members who are actually open-minded about this race. They want to see plans and ideas," and that "there are a lot of members who want it just run and managed a different way."

His official announcement comes hot on the heels of his colleague Rep. Matt Gaetz's (R-FL-1) scathing denunciation of the GOP's top leadership, those being Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, whom he collectively called "McFailure."
