With the 2022 primary elections wrapping up at the end of August and the general election just days away, candidates are making their final push toward in hopes to secure a victory on election night. By all means necessary, aspiring politicians are more active in mailboxes, on television and radio, and on social media. Karen Green, a Democrat going head-to-head against combat veteran Cory Mills (R) for the Congressional seat in Central Florida’s District 7, is one of those politicians.
Yesterday, when asked about the immigration crisis on the border, Green suggested that the world’s climate and “loose gun laws” are contributing to the influx of migrants.
“Climate disasters send people fleeing from failed farmlands for places they can survive. Many countries don't have our capacity for emergency response or farm support. Also, our loose gun laws fuel the drug wars in Mexico, which sends people fleeing for their lives,” tweeted Green.
Following that take, Mills replied, stating that it was Democrats that have caused the most damage at the southern border due to the mentioned loose gun laws.
“I believe my Dem opponent forgets that the only “loose gun laws” that gave drug cartels weapons was under Dem leadership when Operation Fast & Furious (Obama/Holder). Weapons that were used to kill American Border Patrol officers,” replied Mills.
Mills won a tough primary election in August, going against names like State Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-FL), Brady Duke (R), and Ted Edwards (R). Mills crushed the field by 15 percentage points.
Green states on her campaign website that her biggest concerns this election season include women’s rights, affordable housing, and civil liberties.
Mills, on his campaign website states that he is “dedicated to transparency” and is looking to “re-empower the voice of ‘We The People.’”
The two candidates will face-off on November 8th. This congressional district is now considered a solid Republican seat. Mills is expected to win by double digits.
