President Barack Obama
As the 2022 campaign season comes to an end next month, lawmakers are hoping to hit the trail with big-name political figures from their respective parties. President Donald Trump (R) vowed that he would be heavily involved in the midterm election, announcing endorsements and campaigning with selective candidates. However, President Joe Biden (D) has not been as active, and President Barack Obama (D) is now signaling that he won’t be hitting the campaign trail as much as Democrats would like him to.
As political insiders suggest, Democrats across the country are vying for President Obama to campaign with them, hoping that it would bolster their support and fuel their political prospects. However, Obama has commented that while his presence does inject fuel in their campaigns, it also bolsters the opposition of Republicans.
Instead, Obama is choosing to take a more reserved approach, and in an announcement directed to political donors and others involved with the Obama Foundation, the President explains his goal for the upcoming election.
“We’ll explore a range of issues – from strengthening institutions and fighting disinformation, to promoting inclusive capitalism and expanded pluralism – that will shape democracies for generations to come,” Obama said.
The President added that the organization will “showcase democracy in action around the world, and approaches that are working. And we’ll discuss and debate ideas for how we can adapt or democracies and our institutions for a new age.”
Recently, President Biden touched down in Florida to campaign with Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D), who’s vying for the top position in Florida a second time after losing to Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) in 2014.
Aside from that, President Biden has been relatively quiet regarding upcoming campaign events, but the President has maintained a rivalry with Governor DeSantis.
Political pundits estimate that the November election could see Republicans ushering in a “red wave.”
