OPA-LOCKA— Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis along with Rep. Carlos Gimenez held a press conference at the Amazon fulfillment center in Miami-Dade County, where she announced that the Florida Disaster Fund has raised over $45 million for Hurricane Ian relief.
“The continued outpouring of support for Florida in the wake of Hurricane Ian from both individuals and organizations is a testament to the kindness of people from across the nation,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “Several partners, such as Amazon, stepped up within hours of our launch of the Florida Disaster Fund to make substantial donations, and today Amazon is going even one step further with a sizeable donation to our Toy Drive to comfort children impacted by the storm. We could not be more grateful for such acts of kindness.”
Shortly after the storm passed through Southwest Florida, Mrs. DeSantis took it up on herself to spearhead the disaster relief efforts. The fund has been able to garner support from many state and federal companies.
Just last week, when the fund had $35 million raised, dozens of companies from Boeing, CVS, FPL, and Florida-based Publix Supermarkets, all lent their support to victims of the storm.
