DeSantis Announces Reopening of Hurricane Damaged Bridge as Trucks Cross Behind

Share

Following the destruction left behind by Hurricane Ian, the state of Florida saw powerlines go down, extreme flooding, and even a bridge collapse that allowed people to access to Sanibel Island. A temporary bridge has already been constructed and today support vehicles have been mobilized across the water in order to provide assistance to the area.

In times of despair or destitution, it’s amazing what the human resolve can produce.

In the video shown above, trucks can be seen crossing the Sanibel Causeway just as Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is announcing the return of support vehicles to the temporary bridge, rather than have to use more amphibious landing craft.

“I’m actually very happy to be able to report that’s not going to be necessary. Because any minute now, right behind us, the temporary Sanibel Causeway repairs that have already been undertaken, will allow this massive convoy that you see out there: 200 bucket trucks, 150 line and pickup trucks towing 50 trailers to tractor trailers, other first responders they are actually going to be able to cross Sanibel Causeway and drive onto the island today.”

DeSantis will go head-to-head with the Democratic nominee for Governor, Charlie Crist (D-FL) in a debate on October 24th before election day on November 8th.
