Demings Centers Senate Campaign on Abortion

Share

With the controversial decision to overturn the landmark case, Roe v. Wade, Democrats have hedged their bets on abortion being the sole reason they hold their ground against the GOP in the 2022 midterm election.  Now, US Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) appears to be centering her Senate campaign on the issue of abortion.

US Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), who claims to be pro-life and is a staunch Catholic conservative, seems to be the perfect target of the Left on the issue of abortion.  Rep. Demings has resorted to using this to her advantage, claiming Rubio supports, " extremist abortion bans," and does not provide leeway for, "victims of rape and incest."

In a newly-released campaign ad that has only been viewed 88 times, Demings focuses on Sen. Rubio's opposition to abortion.

"Marco Rubio will stop at nothing in his fight to strip freedom from women and girls and force extremist abortion bans nationwide," said Demings Communications Director Christian Slater. "Time and time again, Rubio has refused to stand up and protect Floridians’ freedoms. In the U.S. Senate, Chief Demings will fight back against extremist assaults on abortion rights."

Earlier this Summer, Rubio responded to the pressure from Demings that he is an "extremist, "clarifying the issue for voters.

Rubio claimed in August of this year that he in fact would make exceptions for abortions in cases of rape and incest.  This concession appeared to not be good enough for an over-zealous Demings as she maintained Rubio, " has obsessively fought to take away our rights and freedoms."

Contrary to popular belief, the overturning of Roe v. Wade does not fully kill the ability of abortion access.  The practice is now legally defined as a state issue that could be handled in any variety of ways among the 50 states.

However, the narrative of a "politicized" Supreme Court and rights being taken away seems to be the Democrat playbook this election cycle.

Gubernatorial nominee Charlie Crist and every single Democrat running for elective office, have bet the political house on the abortion issue.
