Hurricane Ivan left widespread damage throughout the Caribbean and along the gulf states when it made landfall on September 16, 2004, so someone should tell Charlie Crist and Florida Democrats that his gubernatorial campaign is campaigning off of Hurricane Ivan and not “Hurrican Ian,” (Sic) which hit Florida a week ago.
In yet another campaign event anchored to the storm that has claimed close to 90 lives, Florida Democrats have gotten its political weathervanes pointing in all sorts of directions.
In a recent event notification email, Duval Democrats announced a campaign partnership with Team Crist, stating that they will hold a hurricane relief drive in Neptune Beach, where they will collect “Bottled Water, Cleaning Products, Non Perishable Food Items, Personal Hygiene Items and Blankets,” and will have “Crist campaign signs and other items available.”
Yes, storm victims are desperately needing Crist campaign signs to help them get through each day. (Sarcasm)
“Charlie Crist Outreach Bus for Hurricane Ivan Recovery,” reads the Crist event notification on the Duval Democrats website.
The email in question does state that the bus tour is for “Hurrican Ian” (sic), but then closes with “Charlie Crist Outreach Bus for Hurricane Ivan Recovery.”
The misnaming of the storm is sloppy, especially when Hurricane Ian has been plastered on every single newspaper, political website, and TV news station for the last week.
Crist has been fundraising before the storm hit and during the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.
Election Day is a little over a month away, and with the latest public opinion poll showing that Gov. Ron DeSantis is leading Crist by 11 percentage points, campaigning and fundraising on the backs of hurricane victims appears to be Crist’s proverbial political Hail Mary play with a month left until ballots are cast.
Remember, Crist used to be the quarterback for the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons in 1974-1975, so he's always looked down field for his wide receivers and his tight end.
