Broward Elections Supervisor Shuts Down Reporter for Asking About Illegal Voter's Arrest

Share

Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott was visibly bothered when grassroots activist and independent reporter Chris Nelson confronted him over the recent arrest of Alford Samuels for illegally voting in Broward County.

Nelson asked Supervisor Scott for comment over Samuels' recent arrest, but Scott quickly shut him down, stating that he did not have a comment on the matter before warning him that if he didn’t sit down, he would be asked to leave the premises.

“I have no comment. It had nothing to do with me,” said Scott. Chris, you don't have permission to be over here. Go sit down. Go sit over there or I'm going to ask you to leave.”

“I said no comment,” Scott reiterated.

Nelson was questioning Scott over Samuels, who is an illegal immigrant from Jamaica with a long criminal history, of registering in the county using a fraudulently obtained Driver's License and illegally voting in two past special elections under the name Samuel Nelson.

“Alfred Samuels, an illegal alien living in Ft Lauderdale, unlawfully voted by mail under the alias Alford Nelson in two Broward County special elections, once on January 11, 2022, and again on March 8, 2022. He became a registered Broward County voter in March 2021 using a counterfeit birth certificate from New York City,” read a press release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)

Samuels is a hardened criminal, having served prison time for up to 11 felonies, including cocaine possession and trafficking, as well as selling drugs within 1,000 ft of a school.

"Today, following an investigation by the Florida Department of State’s Office of Elections Crime and Security, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has formally charged and arrested Alfred Samuels, an illegal alien living in Fort Lauderdale, for unlawfully voting under the alias Alford Nelson in the January 2022 and March 2022 special elections in Broward County. The Department will continue to work jointly with FDLE to investigate and hold accountable anyone who broke Florida’s election laws. By holding these individuals accountable, we will make sure Florida’s elections remain secure and accurate.”—Dep. Of State.

This is the latest arrest stemming from an investigation by DeSantis’s newly-minted Office of Election Crimes and Security.

The security unit was created under the Department of State early this year to combat any and all past and future voter fraud.
