Rep. Brian Mast /The Floridian
Yesterday, a CNN article written by Eric Bradner lays out the most important issue on voters’ minds this election cycle: inflation and the economy as a whole. With this in mind, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) sent out multiple tweets calling out President Joe Biden (D) and the nation’s lackluster economic performance so far during his administration.
With bloated inflation numbers coming in on a monthly basis and gas prices plateauing around $3.77 on average nationally (it was as high as $5.02 nationally in June), Americans seem to have their wallets on their mind this cycle.
First, Rep. Mast attacked President Biden’s comments mentioning that America’s economy is “strong as hell.”
“Biden says that our economy is “strong as hell” but the reality is that retirement accounts are down and grocery prices are up thanks to his out-of-control spending. In the end, it’s always American families who get hit the worst by this Administration’s failures,” tweeted Rep. Mast.
In the month of September, the United States saw an 8.5% increase over the year for the month. Necessary items such as corn, grains, and turkeys went up at least 30%, with items like eggs up as much as 97.3%.
Mast went on to criticize Biden for the high gas prices as well, which two years ago, were at $2.16 a gallon.
“On October 25, 2020, the national average for a gallon of gas was $2.16. Today, it’s $3.77. This is what happens when you refuse to invest in the production of reliable, American-made energy,” tweeted Mast.
If the CNN article is correct and the American electorate values the economy above all, then Mast has a fair argument to make.
However, is it too late for Democrats to save the economy before the midterms?
