With the September 30th deadline to fund the government fast approaching, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) is calling on his colleagues to pass a continuing resolution that will fund the government through 2023, by maintaining the current functions and programs of the federal government. This moves intention is to keep the Democrats from pushing any far-left agenda before the midterms, while also keeping the government funded.
According to FiveThirtyEight, Republicans have a 74% chance to take back the House, and a 30% chance to take back the Senate.
“Month after month for the last two years, Democrats and President Joe Biden have been able to advance their radical agenda while Republicans are getting NOTHING in return for the families we represent,” said the Florida Senator. “It’s time for the broken business-as-usual routine in Washington to end. Today, I am urging every Republican to demand that Congress pass a clean CR that simply maintains current federal spending levels. We cannot cave to the demands of the Democrats carrying out an agenda led by a raving lunatic in the White House. We, as Republicans, must stand strong and demand nothing more than clean government operations until a new Congress begins.”
If the Republicans take back the House, it will be the first time since 2018 that the GOP will have the majority. As history usually repeats itself, the opposing party of the executive branch in power usually loses. That’s what happened in 2018 during the Trump administration and is now projected to happen in 2022.
“Doing this will not result in any cuts to funding or services and will ensure that the federal government continues to operate as it must for the American people until a new Congress begins in 2023. If members have other new issues, whether they involve appropriations or not, I hope they will bring them forward for individual votes so we can quickly act on them. Anything that is truly urgent can and should be voted on as soon as possible, not held hostage so it can be used as a political weapon in a government funding bill,” said Rick Scott.
Sen. Scott will look to defend his seat in 2024, unless he decides to run for the highest office at that time.
