Charlie Crist has Called it Quits

Don’t get too excited. Rep. Crist resigned from his position as Congressman to focus on his gubernatorial race against Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Crist’s move mimics what DeSantis did back in 2018 when he ran resigned to run for governor. The only difference is that DeSantis quit much earlier than Crist.

The Former Police Chief vs The Police’s Choice

Since deciding to run for the U.S. Senate, Rep. Val Demings has been referring to herself as “The Chief.”

Demings was once the Orlando Chief of Police but never used that past title in any of her previous congressional races.

Now “Chief” Demings is running against Sen. Marco Rubio, who has been endorsed by just about every single Sheriff and Police Chief in the state of Florida.

"Crist Resigns from House; Focuses on Gubernatorial Campaign" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich— On Wednesday, August 31st, Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL) announced his resignation from his seat in Florida’s 13th Congressional District, effective immediately. The “Staff for the Office of the 13th Congressional District of Florida” will continue to supply services for constituents up until January when the new candidate is sworn-in next year. This move will allow Crist to focus on the gubernatorial race against incumbent Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

"Steube Discusses FBI Censoring Facebook on Hunter Biden's Laptop," by The Floridian's Grayson Bakich—In a recent interview with Joe Rogan, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the FBI ordered social media not to spread news about Hunter Biden's laptop. While Newsweek clarifies that this was to verify the story's authenticity, the recent raid on Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home raises suspicion in hindsight. On Friday, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL-17) offered his insights on Fox News' Evening Edit.

Wade in June, many "Red States" have acted accordingly, placing heavy restrictions on, or outright banning, abortion. Thursday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said that he has and would support legislation that has exceptions for pregnancies, including pregnancies that have been a result of rape or incest.

"Rubio Calls Out Demings for Supporting Mass Student Loan Forgiveness," by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—Yesterday, President Joe Biden (D) made an announcement stating that his administration would be paying tens of thousands of dollars of student loan debt to individuals using taxpayer dollars. Republicans have jeered this decision, while some Democrats have applauded it. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is not a fan.

"DeSantis Announces New SunPass Savings Program," by The Floridian's Grayson Bakich—If any of The Floridian's readership frequently drives on Florida's toll roads, you can breathe a bit easier now. On Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is implementing a new "SunPass Savings" program beginning September 1st. This six-month initiative is estimated to save users $38 million, and DeSantis is calling on the State Legislature to "take necessary action" next year so more Floridians can save toll money.

"Diaz-Balart Condemns Biden's Reduction in Force of Office of Cuba Broadcasting," by The Floridian's Grayson Bakich—For many years, the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) has given the Cuban people news media through its Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB) that the state disallows. Recently, however, just over a year after the historic July 11th protests, its budget has been facing a Reduction in Force (RIF). Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL-25) is calling this RIF "despicable" and an attempt by the Biden administration "to appease the Communist oppressors."
