Florida Democrats Target Republicans Over Abortion Rights

Share

Ahead of the primary elections, it was clear that abortion rights would be an important topic that could define the results of the midterm elections. With Republicans and Democrats at odds on the issue, Democrats continue to take to social media to comment on Republican talking points regarding abortion.

On Twitter, Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) argued that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) will not be an ally to the pro-choice movement.

"Florida needs a governor who will protect reproductive freedom - not ban it like Ron DeSantis," said the gubernatorial hopeful.

Since the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, Republicans have rallied behind opposing abortion, but Democrats have emboldened their campaigns by vowing to voters that they'll do everything in their power to make sure that abortion rights are still offered to constituents.

One proponent of abortion rights is Florida Rep. Anna V. Eskamani (D).

The Democratic firebrand from Central Florida posted a video mocking a Republican headquarters, which has been "gaslighting voters since 1980."

In the video, Rep. Eskamani claims that Republicans have wiped away all traces of their support for banning abortions on websites. Specifically mentioning Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R), Eskamani jokingly acted a conversation with the Republican Senator, which resulted in editing his campaign website to get rid of his support to ban abortions.

"Republican politicians across the country and right here in Florida are trying to scrub their websites & hide the fact that they want to ban all abortion access," Eskamani captioned the video.

"Good thing we have receipts!," stated Eskamani.

In the comments section, Eskamani urged her followers to vote for Florida Rep. Val Demings (D).

Eskamani has endorsed Crist for Governor, and she has campaigned with Crist. The gubernatorial hopeful has maintained that he'll ensure Florida is a pro-choice state, which has been met with opposition from DeSantis.
