Cruz Warns of Weingarten's 'Damage' to US

Share

When Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) announced Karla Hernandez-Mats (D) as his running mate, Democrats cheered at the decision.  However, Republicans largely criticized the decision, likening the Lt. Governor hopeful to Randi Weingarten. Since then, Republicans have dubbed her "Karla Marx," and Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) has further criticized Weingarten, saying that nobody has "done more damage to the United States" in the last  three years than Weingarten.

Taking to social media to share his comments, the Texas Senator shared, "Randi Weingarten, you screwed millions of kids in America."

Weingarten was a proponent of classes remaining virtual, which angered Republicans across the country. Hernandez-Mats also supported teachers unions in their calls for remaining virtual, but Republican leadership opposed that. Citing the negative effects that it would have on the students, the issue has been a topic of contention in the political landscape.

'We had schools all across America shut down, and many states shut down for weeks and then months," continued Cruz, referencing data of the effects of virtual schooling.

"Black students lost 13  points in math, and the white black gap score went from 25 points in 2020 all the way up to 33 points in 2022," Cruz explained, thanking Democrats for the issue.

Weingarten is the President of the American Federation of Teachers, and because schools have opened once again, Weingarten has affirmed her commitment to making sure that students and teachers are safe while in the classroom.

Taking to social media to comment on helping teachers succeed in the classroom, Weingarten commented that "the last couple of years were about keeping our school system open and safe. Now, it’s really about where we want to take our school system educationally, and what are the things we want to really fight for.”
