Former Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren is campaigning for his job back and asking for donations.
In a video released Sunday morning, Warren, who was recently suspended from his position by Gov. Ron DeSantis, stated, “Ron DeSantis is trying to overthrow democracy in Florida,” adding that the action DeSantis took against him “violates the most fundamental basis of our democracy.”
“His plot to suspend me lately violates the most fundamental basis of our democracy— your vote. He’s turned to overturn the results of a fair and free election,” said Warren, who claims that crime in the jurisdiction he once worked in was “low,” and that residents shared his “vision for criminal justice.”
Warren went on to call his suspension illegal and was simply part of some “political circus” orchestrated by DeSantis.
“Let me be clear I'm not going down without a fight,” concluded Warren.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister spoke at the press conference and expressed his frustration with Warren’s “empathy for criminals.”
“I continue to work with my law enforcement counterparts who privately are frustrated with the state attorney, who seems intently focused on empathy for criminals and less interested in pursuing justice for crime victims,” Sheriff Chronister said.
Sheriff Chronister added,” our criminal justice partners also take an oath to uphold the Constitution, the duly enacted laws of this state, and to be the voice for victims, and to be the protectors of public interest. The governor's suspension of State Attorney Warren is not political to me, it's about law and order. There are not Republican and Democratic victims, just victims."
Together, we will fight Ron DeSantis' abuse of power and restore the will of the voters. I hope you'll join me.
