Mar-a-Lago Raid Could ‘Undermine’ Jan 6 Investigation

Share

The raid at Mar-a-Lago continues to have an effect on the political landscape as it further divides lawmakers and voters. Former Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo (D) commented on the raid, t arguing that if answers are not provided soon regarding the reasoning for the raid, it could lead “undermine” the January 6thinvestigation.

The response to the raid has been divisive with Republicans criticizing the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Democrats praising the raid, arguing that it’s indicative that Republicans will lose in the upcoming election. However, embattled former New York Governor Cuomo took to social media to question the raid, saying it could have negative effects on the January 6th investigation if there’s no clear reason as to why the raid was conducted.

Cuomo took to social media to say that the “DOJ must immediately explain the reason for its raid & it must be more than a search for inconsequential archives or it will be viewed as a political tactic and undermine any future credible investigation & legitimacy of January 6 investigations,” adding that the “DOJ must disclose the bona fide nature of the August 8 action or else the republicans will use it to Discredit the Jan 6 investigation, which would be a terrible disservice to the good work of the house committee in exposing The Trump administration violations.”

The FBI has not released a comment regarding the reason for the raid, but the New York Times has reported that the raid is in reference to an investigation into boxes of classified material.

In response to the raid, Trump released a statement, questioning, “what is the difference between this and Watergate, where operatives broke into the Democratic National Committee? Here, in reverse, Democrats broke into the home of the 45th President of the United States.”
