Hava Holzhauer Says Sorensen and Moskowitz are 'Establishment' candidates, She's not

Throughout this election process, Floridians around the state are learning more and more about their candidates and are gathering information to make well-informed decisions. Because of this precedent, The Floridian spoke to  Hava Holzhauer (D), Democratic candidate for U.S. House in Florida’s District 23 this past weekend.  Holzhauer, who has received the endorsement of the National Organization for Women (NOW),  has a background in law, serving as an assistant state attorney in Florida’s 15^th Judicial Circuit and says she is not an "establishment" candidate.

When asked about what separates herself from her opponents (other than the fact that she’s the only woman in the Democratic primary), Holzhauer states that she is the only Democrat with a career in justice.

“I am the only one with a clear background that is justice oriented. Like if you want to know anything about my work, you can look up my views; they weren’t made up for the purpose of running for office," said Holzhauer.

With that being said, Holzhauer considers herself an outsider. She claims that the voters of this nation align themselves with a candidate that has a resumé that isn’t necessarily politically focused.

“And I think that we have enough of the establishment resumé that’s already in Congress. If people want a different result, then they need to elect different people. And that is something that is really resonating with voters. If we do the same thing and we choose these same resumés and the same guys over and over again, then we’re going to get the same result," added Holzhauer. “In addition to the justice issues around equality, around privacy rights, around the gun epidemic. We also have climate and immigration and affordability issues that I’ve been hearing for, you know, two-plus decades. They’re not getting it done.”

When asked if her opponents, Ben Sorensen (D) and Jared Evan Moskowitz (D) were to be considered in that “establishment” category, Holzhauer responded, “Oh, absolutely.”

“This is a job about service, which has been lost for so many politicians, and we need to look at people’s record for what they have done. Anybody can say what they’re going to do, but what have you done," she concluded,

Florida's 2022 midterm primary election will take place on August 23^rd. Early voting is already underway.
