Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) are set to attend the Keep Florida Free Tour on Wednesday. The event, set to raise GOP support after the primary election on Tuesday, will host both Republicans among others addressing Florida voters.
Rubio, who’s facing achallenger in Florida Rep. Val Demings (D), has taken a hit in the polls in recent weeks, but he maintains that voters will reject Demings and Democrats in November. Similarly, DeSantis has rarely address his Democratic rivals, and he’s instead focused his criticism on President Joe Biden (D).
Ahead of the event, Democrats have taken to social media to slam both lawmakers, including Florida Rep. Anna V. Eskamani (D).
Eskamani, who's endorsed Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) for Governor, took to Twitter to share that she "might throw up" at the idea of DeSantis and Rubio speaking at the same event.
When supplying reasons for wanting to "throw up," the Democratic firebrand said that "both want to ban abortion, don't support LGBTQ+ people, won't close corporate tax loopholes and continue to perpetrate culture wars while Floridians can't pay their bills or afford rent. Both are also on your November ballot this year."
Eskamani then expressed that it "would be a shame if a bunch of people ordered tickets and didn't show up. Since the event is free and all."
At one point, Eskamani was rumored to be mulling a gubernatorial run, having insinuated the move through various social media posts. However, the Democrat did not move forward with an announcement, and she's instead campaigned with Rep. Crist, who's also campaigned with state Senator Annette Taddeo (D).
Other speakers at the Keep Florida Free Tour include Senate President Wilton Simpson (R), who's vying for the Agriculture Commissioner position that Nikki Fried (D) is vacating.
