The 2022 midterm election inches closer every day, and Florida has been a hotspot of activity, to say the least. Speaking with The Floridian this week, State Senate candidate Jay Collins (R) describes himself as "a big fan" of Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and of his own commitment to stand with American families. Collins, a former U.S. Army Green Beret who has received the Purple Heart, lost a leg in combat, is endorsed by DeSantis and is running against incumbent State Senator Janet Cruz (D)Florida's 14th District.
Collins praised Gov. DeSantis for his willingness to protect families and believes that protecting young and "impressionable children is paramount to him. Collins also says that being a parent is what "defines" him.
"You know, when I was a little boy, there were many different things that impressed me, and many people that taught and told me different things. And in the end, children are impressionable," said Collins. " As a parent, there is nothing that defines me more than the word "dad," and anything I can do to stand up for America's children, for the children here in Florida, and to make sure that children have the opportunity to grow and become the person they're meant to be, the person they're going to be, and have the opportunity to be the best version of themselves, we're going to do that."
