Florida Senate candidates and current U.S. Rep. Val Demings has come out denouncing “Big Pharma” on Twitter, stating that the pharmaceutical industry has long been “winning on Capitol Hill because they have the money and the lobbyists on their side.”
"Big Pharma is used to winning on Capitol Hill, because they have the money and the lobbyists on their side. But with the #InflationReductionAct we put working families first," stated Rep. Demings.
Rep. Demings’s newfound contempt towards “Big Pharma” is starkly different from the position she held towards the drug industry during the 2020 and 2018 election cycles.
In the past, Rep. Demings received thousands of dollars in campaign donations from “lobbyists” representing “Big Pharma,” including contributions from some of the nation’s largest pharmaceutical companies— Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer.

According to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), while running for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives, Demings receive donations from the aforementioned drug giants as well as from other pharmaceutical-related PACS and medical associations, like the Psychiatrist Association whose members prescribe drugs to their patients.
Here are several of the donations Demings has received from drug companies and drug company-friendly groups
In her tweet, Demings also praises the newly passed Inflation in Reduction Act, a measure that she voted for, and that is reported to increase taxes on those “working families” she mentions, not to mention adding 87,000 armed IRS agents.
We reached out to the Demings campaign for comment, but have not heard back.
