Waltz on Fox: China's Threats to Pelosi Visiting Taiwan "Unacceptable"

Share

Appearing on Fox News' The Story , Representative Michael Waltz (R-FL) calls for a stronger response to recent threats from China over Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) potentially visiting Taiwan. Earlier this week, China claims it will take "forceful measures" should the visit take place. The former editor of the Chinese Communist Party's newspaper has gone so far as to suggest shooting down Pelosi's plane.

Waltz calls the threats "unacceptable," especially because Speaker Pelosi is third in succession for President. The Representative states that any harm to Pelosi is "tantamount to a declaration of war." Waltz blasts the Biden Administration for its lack of clarity regarding this issue, saying, "No matter what you think of her politics if any harm comes to the Speaker of the House once again, we see the Biden White House failing to be clear on what the United States finds acceptable and unacceptable."

Additionally, the severity of the threat and the White House's feeble response should put aside conservative dislike of Pelosi and unite with liberals against a common enemy.

Furthermore, Waltz states that should Pelosi stay home, the United States would hand China a propaganda victory. This would also send a message to U.S. allies in the region such as Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Should they be threatened, we may not have their back.

After his appearance on Fox, Representative Waltz provides snippets of the footage in two tweets.

"Once again, we're seeing the Biden Admin fail to make it clear where the line is to our adversaries. Should any harm come to the Speaker of the House, no matter what you think of her politics, on a trip to Taiwan, it will be tantamount to a declaration of war," reads Waltz's first tweet.

"Here's what I was hoping to hear from Biden regarding China," Waltz stated in the second tweet.

His second tweet features the portion of the interview on what he says the U.S.'s response should have been. Waltz speaks of a "policy shift" embracing Taiwan as its own country as opposed to the U.S.'s longstanding "One China" policy.
