Gaetz Holds the 'High Ground,' Votes in Favor of the National Defense Authorization Act

Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) sent out a press release showcasing his approval for the House’s passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a measure that includes $525 million to Rep. Gaetz’s congressional district in North Florida.

“Our military must be one of the top, central focuses of the work we do in Congress. As the world becomes an increasingly dangerous place, we have to protect our country and hold the high ground. Today I voted in favor of the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)," stated Gaetz. "The legislation must still shed some poison pills in coming negotiations with the Senate, after which it will be far more valuable to our beloved America.”

The press release outlines service members’ wages and the spending increase allotted to them in relation to the Biden economy.

“Our service members are struggling under the weight of Joe Biden’s crippling inflation. Rep. Gaetz supported a spending increase to provide much needed relief to our troops, securing $800 Million for a 2.4% inflation pay bonus for service members making under $45,000 and additional $250 Million to reduce the cost of groceries at the commissary," read the statement.

Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) also sent out a press release showcasing her contributions to the bill as well. According to the release, the NDAA includes “Murphy-led provisions:”

“To meet the defense challenges of tomorrow, we must invest in the people, programs, and technologies protecting America and her allies today,” said Murphy, a former national security specialist at the Department of Defense. “I was proud to work on this bipartisan bill as a leader on the House Armed Services Committee, which will deliver the largest servicemember pay raise in decades, as well as measures to help deter Russian and Chinese aggression and enable the U.S. military to increase assistance to our allies and partners like Ukraine. These investments will ensure our military forces have everything they need to combat the complex array of international threats and domestic challenges our nation faces.”
