DeSantis Signs Curriculum Transparency Bill into Law

Share

The DeSantis Administration has prided Florida in being dubbed the, "Education State."  Now, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has signed yet another education bill into law, this time to improve curriculum transparency for Florida parents.

Last legislative session in Florida was highlighted by statewide education policies.  While the governor slashed FSA testing, Republican lawmakers mostly focused on giving parents more authority in their children's education, namely the Parental Rights in Education bill that was targeted by Democrats across Florida.

When signing the bill into law, Gov. DeSantis claimed that parents not only have a role but have a "fundamental role," in their child's education.

"What we're going to be doing today is sign, probably the strongest curriculum transparency legislation in the country," said DeSantis,  adding the bill, "will require transparency with respect to the materials that are being taught in classrooms, or are available in school libraries."

DeSantis further stated that this law would allow parents to not only review material being given to students, but also make it easier for parents to raise, "objections," if the material is seen as inappropriate.

Republicans in Florida have greatly mobilized their efforts toward the education system in recent years.  Just last week the governor issued 16 endorsements of school board candidates across the country that are in support of his new education initiative.

The "DeSantis Education Agenda: Putting Students First, Protecting Parents’ Rights," is a statewide blueprint for school board candidates and members who are committed to advancing Governor DeSantis’ agenda priorities at the local school board level.

The governor's re-election campaign has announced that the plan's contents consist of parental rights policies, and are combative of the, "woke agenda" being implemented in public school classrooms.
