After two terms as Florida’s District 10 representative, Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) is running for the U.S. Senate against the incumbent, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). However, she isn’t running as “Rep. Demings,” she’s running as “Chief Demings” more than 10 years removed from the position she held in the Orlando Police Department. Moreover, Demings has started campaigning with Anna Eskamani (D-FL), described by the Rubio camp as “the most radical Democrat in the Florida state legislature.”
"While Val Demings spends millions of dollars on ads trying to convince Floridians not to believe their own eyes, she's spending her day campaigning with Florida's own champion of the Defund the Police movement and cheerleader for every other crazy liberal idea cooked up in the fever dreams of the far-left, Anna Eskamani. 'You can make your mouth say anything,' as Val says, but ultimately voters are going to judge Demings on her actions and the company she keeps," said Elizabeth Gregory, communications director for Marco Rubio for Senate.
According to a Rubio press release, Eskamani called for demilitarization and divestment from the Orlando Police Department in which Chief Demings served.
RaceToTheWhiteHouse reports that as of Friday, July 8th, Marco Rubio has an 85 percent chance of maintaining his seat in Washington. He is also projected to win by 9.3 points.
Back in mid-April, The Floridian spoke to Rubio in an exclusive interview.
“What, she’s been in the House for six years and has never passed a single bill. She’s done nothing. I mean, I imagine if I was in Congress for six years: my party was in power, the president of my party was in power, and I have nothing to show for it. She probably doesn’t want people to know she’s up there," said the Florida Senator.
Demings first gained national attention during the 2020 presidential election when she was on the shortlist to be now-President Joe Biden’s (D) running mate.
