Crist Hopeful of Dems Future ‘Polling’

Share

In recent months, Democrats have faced waning support. With reports of voters registering as Republicans and the Biden administration facing a low approval rating, calls of a “red wave” approaching have dominated media circuits. However, given recent events, Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) is calling for Democrats to remain hopeful, assuring that “polling a week from now” could be different.

Rep. Crist, who’s pursuing the gubernatorial position, took part in a Zoom discussion with the Miami-Dade Democratic Senior Caucus and the Democratic Haitian American Caucus of Florida.

In the discussion, he commented on recent events that could determine the election, calling it a “three-part nightmare for the Republican Party.”

“When it comes to Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose, Democrats good, Republicans bad,” he commented, adding that “Democrats are the party of gun safety” while “Republicans are in the pocket of the National Rifle Association.”

“Not only am I running for Governor, I’ve actually been your Governor,” Crist noted, citing his time as the Republican Governor of the state, which his rival, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) has scrutinized.

“Tell Democrats… Charlie Crist as a Republican Governor is the only candidate in this race who actually already has vetoed an anti-abortion bill. And Charlie Crist is the only candidate in this race, Republican, Democrat or otherwise, who actually restored rights of former felons, to give them the right to vote – 155,000 of them,” Crist said.

A slew of endorsements and a string of polls have positioned Crist as the Democratic frontrunner in the upcoming August primary election.

“This is probably the most important gubernatorial election Florida’s ever had and in large measure because of the guy we’re running against,” Crist affirmed, commenting that DeSantis is “a nightmare, on every level every count. Whether you’re concerned about minority rights, civil rights, human rights, women’s rights, you know, across the board he’s chopped away at it over and over and over again.”
