Wasserman Schultz Rallies for Abortion in Ft. Lauderdale

Pro-abortion politicians over the weekend attended the “Bans off our Bodies” rally in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in opposition to the recent blockbuster Supreme Court ruling which overturned Roe v. Wade. The 1973 decision which gave the right to women to receive an abortion in all 50 states set a high precedent for nearly 50 years.

Since the ’70s, events in popular culture have grown to consistently glorify the prenatal procedure including “shouting your abortion,” and comedian Michelle Wolf’s skit “salute to abortion.” Even more recently, attacks on pro-life institutions such as crisis pregnancy centers and churches in which criminals spray-painted “if abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either,” have made the issue of abortion worth rioting for to some.

The pro-life movement would say that the pro-abortion movement has come a long, long way from the days of “safe, legal, and rare.” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) stated that “This decision is a repulsive immoral erosion of women’s Constitutional and Human dignity and autonomy. It’s a decision that shows how far these extremist Republicans in their judicial picks are out of step with America.”

Wasserman Schultz also alluded to the idea that before Roe v. Wade, women were “second class citizens.”

“We will not back down from this fight. We will not go back!” and then crowd continued the chant a couple more times: “We will not go back," shouted Wasserman Schultz, adding, “We will not go back to being second class citizens. Hell, we were barely considered citizens who had no rights. And they’re just going to slowly start churning that clock back so they can tighten the noose around our necks. I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore…Now let’s take to the streets, demand our rights, and roundup our relatives, friends, and coworkers in November.”
