Supreme Court Rules Against Trump's 'Remain in Mexico' Immigration Policy

Share

Days after the U.S. Supreme Court handed Conservatives and Republicans a huge victory by overturning the 1973 Roe vs Wade abortion decision, the Court landed a body blow to Republicans by ruling against the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy.

In a 5-4 ruling and reversal, the Supreme Court said that the Biden administration is free to repeal the immigration measure Trump put in place to keep immigrants in Mexico while they wait for their asylum or immigration hearings to take place.

The Court decision struck down a lower court’s ruling to block the Biden administration’s effort to repeal the policy.

"[T]he Government’s rescission of MPP did not violate section 1225 of the INA [Immigration and Nationality Act], and the October 29 Memoranda did constitute final agency action," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the Court's opinion.

Republican lawmakers like Rep. Kat Cammack are deeply disappointed in the ruling. Rep. Cammack called the ongoing immigration crisis along the U.S. southern border.

Cammack, like just about all Republican lawmakers, places sole blame for the border crisis on the shoulders of the Biden administration.

"To say I’m disappointed in today’s Supreme Court ruling is an understatement. I’m frustrated that this administration can continue with their utter disregard for our national security, American lives, and the agents doing the impossible task of managing the influx of migrants pouring across our borders. During the worst crisis at our southern border in American history, there are very few measures that allow our agents to do their jobs and process the millions of illegal immigrants who have crossed our borders since Biden took office, and now that tool—'Remain in Mexico'—is gone," said Cammack.

Cammack went further, calling Biden the “trafficker-in-chief” and hoping he and his “incompetent DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will be held fully responsible when Republicans take the House back in November.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been one of the loudest voices of opposition to the Biden administration's immigration policy

“The cartels are just eating our lunch with what’s going on with these border policies. They’ve never had it so good. You’ve got drugs pouring across, you got human trafficking coming,” said Gov. DeSantis

The crisis along the border, which has been “causing a huge burden” on the American people and as a result of the “sheer number of people” crossing over, has led DeSantis to propose new action against the Biden administration.

Rep. Brian Mast has also called the  border crisis, “Joe Biden’s border crisis.”

Rep.Mast, whose mother is Mexican-American, believes that the influx of illegal immigrants that are pouring into the country is ”inhumane and a massive tragedy.”

Just this week, 53 illegal immigrants perished in a tractor-trailer that was abandoned in San Antonio, Texas.

Republicans blame the Biden administration.
