Rubio Calls for More Security for Supreme Court Judges

After Justice Samual Alito’s memo calling for the abolishing of Roe vs. Wade leaked, alarming the country that the Supreme Court intended on overturning the long-standing decision, conservative judges were subject to protests outside of their homes. Democrats have since been campaigning on the support of Roe vs. Wade while Republicans are raising concern over the safety of the judges. In response, Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s (R) team is now calling for judges and their families to receive increased security.

This week, an armed man was arrested near the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. In response, Senator Rubio highlighted that a bipartisan bill had been introduced to increase the security of the judges and their families.

On social media, the Florida Republican’s team made the call for Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) "to call on Pelosi to pass this bill to keep our Supreme Court Justices and their families safe."

As reported by the Washington Post, "a California man carrying at least one weapon near Brett M. Kavanaugh’s Maryland home has been taken into custody by police after telling officers he wanted to kill the Supreme Court justice... Initial evidence indicates that the man was angry about the leaked draft of an opinion by the Supreme Court signaling that the court is preparing to overturn Roe. v. Wade."

On Twitter, Rubio informed that "a California man with at least one weapon & burglary tools went to Brett Kavanaugh's home to try and kill him," reiterating that last month he had warned that the Justice Department "to take the threats against Supreme Court justices seriously."

Conservative commentators are directing blame to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D).

In March  2020, Schumer, speaking to a crowd, told his supporters that those who supported Kavanaugh "have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price."

"You won't know what hit you  if you go forward with these awful decision," said Schumer.
