DeSantis Called 'Heartless,' Accused of not Caring for his Family

Share

FORT LAUDERDALE—During a rally in protest of the Supreme Court ruling that overturned the Roe vs. Wade abortion ruling, State Senator Tina Polsky (D) announced to the crowd of about 250 at the Esplanade in Downtown Fort Lauderdale that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis didn't care about women, particularly his wife and daughters.

Moments after Sen. Polsky left the stage, we caught up with her offstage, where the popular South Florida legislator reasserted her claim that Gov. DeSantis did not care about his family.

Polsky said that DeSantis did not care about his wife Casey because he let her attend events maskless while she was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.

"I don't think he cares about his family. He let Casey DeSantis all over the place without a mask during chemotherapy. I don't think he cares about his daughters. He's heartless," said Polsky.

On May 10, 2022, First Lady DeSantis made her first public campaign appearance after first being diagnosed with cancer back in October 2021.  She later made a few more public appearances after completing her treatment, including a June appearance with the Governor at the University of Miami to announce state funding for cancer treatment.

“After six rounds of chemotherapy, a surgery, six weeks of radiation, and most importantly, through God’s grace, I am elated while humbled to be back on the campaign trail fighting for America’s Governor."- First Lady Casey DeSantis

During a legislative committee week in October 2021, Polsky kicked Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo out of her office because he refused to wear a mask even after being offered one. Polsky herself was going through treatment for breast cancer but did not tell Ladapo she had the disease but rather told the Surgeon General she had a serious medical condition.

Democratic state and federal lawmakers, including State Sen. Lauren Book and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, joined pro-choice activists to denounce the Court and Republican elected officials, including former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Gov. DeSantis nor his office could be reached for comment.
