Crist Scores More Gubernatorial Endorsements

Share

With Florida state Senator Annette Taddeo (D) dropping out of the gubernatorial race to challenge Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R), both Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) and Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) are vying for the nomination, and for endorsements. In recent weeks, Rep. Crist, who formerly served as Florida's Governor as a Republican, has emerged as the frontrunner, amassing endorsements from unions to politicians.

While Crist continues to receive endorsements from across the state, Fried is calling into question the integrity of the general election.

This week, Fried directed criticism at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) (again)and his Republican colleagues.

Citing a concern that DeSantis and Republicans will try to "circumvent or override democratic norms," Fried issued a letter to Kristen Clarke, the Assistant U.S. Attorney General, listing and explaining her concerns.

Her opponent in the upcoming primary has not commented on Fried's letter. However, Crist is celebrating new endorsements that his campaign welcomed, coming from state Senator Tony Hill (D) and from the Florida Chapter of the Sierra Club.

In a statement, Luigi Guadarrama, the political director of Sierra Club Florida, commented on the reason behind Crist's endorsement.

“It’s no secret that this election cycle will have deep repercussions for Florida’s communities, economy, and environment," said Guadarrama, adding that the Sierra Club Florida believes "that Charlie Crist is the only candidate in this race that can defeat Ron DeSantis, take action to protect our environment and confront the ongoing climate crisis."

Calling Crist "a fighter," Guadarrama commented that “through the course of this process we consistently heard from people that Charlie Crist was the only candidate that met with them and their communities, and we believe that he’ll take that with him to Tallahassee.”

Hill, who's currently running for Florida's 4th congressional district, called Crist "the real deal," and Crist announced that he was endorsement Hill in his congressional race.
