Conservatives Angered by George Soros Group Acquiring Miami's Radio Mambi

Share

The acquisition of Radio Mambi by individuals with links to the Democratic party has sent shockwaves across the Republican party and Hispanic communities. A number of conservative lawmakers have criticized the LMN deal, blaming George Soros for the acquisition.

Along with 18 spanish-language radio stations, Radio Mambi was purchased by the Latino Media Network, which according to a press release from Senator Rubio is “a recently formed media group run by Democrat activists and funded in part by leftwing billionaire George Soros.”

A number of conservative lawmakers have expressed their disapproval of the deal, including Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R).

The Governor’s team released a Spanish advertisement, slamming George Soros for undertaking a “propaganda takeover on local media.”

The team, in a message to supporters, expressed that “in a sinister attempt to mislead Florida voters, George Soros is acquiring Hispanic radio stations across the country – including two in Miami.”

“Governor DeSantis is sounding the alarm with a PSA ad launch on these radio stations to warn listeners of the Leftist motives behind Soros’ media ventures, his latest propaganda scheme to push his radical Marxist agenda on Florida voters,” the team added.

Echoing in the Governor’s response, Mayor Bovo penned an op-ed for Diario de las Americas, calling the acquisition a move where Democrats want to silence conservative voices.

Moreover, last week, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) and colleagues sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel on the matter.

In the letter, the lawmakers write, “we are concerned that LMN, as a newly formed front group led by partisan operatives with zero experience in broadcasting, may work to silence political viewpoints with which its funders disagree.”

“if successful, LMN could exercise virtually uncontested influence over nearly one third of all Hispanics across the country,” the lawmakers added.
