4000+ Petitions Urge DeSantis to Sign Alimony Bill

Florida Family Fairness, a Conservative and pro-Family˙organization has delivered 4000+ signed petitions from concerned Floridians urging Gov. Ron DeSantis to sign SB 1796 – Florida Family Law Reform Bill or the “Alimony Bill.”

The group hand-delivered the petitions to the Governor’s office in the state capitol on Friday, urging him to continue with his “Family First” agenda by signing the alimony bill into law.

The bill on DeSantis’s desk is one of those contentious “Left vs Right” or “Conservative vs. Progressive” measures.

“For far too long, the process has given divorce lawyers the upper hand during divorce proceedings. It is time to modernize Florida’s family court laws, by making the process more equitable and predictable for all parties while reducing the cost of litigation,” read a statement from Florida Family Fairnesss. “One of the key provisions in this bill also protects children by allowing divorce proceedings to begin with a presumption of equal time sharing between the parents, which ultimately takes away divorce lawyers’ ability to leverage children as bargaining chips. This helps mothers and fathers, who are going through an already very stressful situation, to fairly resolve timesharing and financial matters without hurting the children.”

Progressive groups like NOW and League of Womens Voters, who are backed by the Trial Lawyer lobby, have drawn a line in the political sand with this bill.

Florida NOW representative, lobbyist Barbara DeVane, recently made the case against the bill, taking a Man’s world approach to qualify her opposition.

“They know these mothers will give up everything to get custody,” said DeVane, adding that men always had the upper hand over women because of the amount of money they wielded.

DeSantis is expected to address the alimony bill in the coming days, possibly weeks.
