Team Rubio: Demings Supports 'Abortion up Until Birth'

Share

Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) has asserted that abortion rights will be at the forefront of her senatorial campaign. In response, the Rubio campaign is now criticizing the former Orlando police chief, arguing that is in favor “of abortion up until the moment of birth.”

Elizabeth Gregory, the communications director for Marco Rubio for Senate, slammed the Senatorial hopeful, arguing that “Chuck Schumer is wishing he had a reliable, radical Democrat like Val Demings in the Senate today to give him another vote in favor of abortion up until the moment of birth.” Gregory added that “while such an egregious bill sounds extreme to the American people (because it is), this one is right in Demings’ pro-abortion wheelhouse,” expressing that “Floridians can be sure that if Demings became the 51st Democrat in the Senate, she would vote to eliminate the filibuster so that radical laws like this can become the law of the land with a simple majority.”

The team cites that Demings has consistently voted in favor of abortions after twenty weeks, which has drawn criticism from Republicans.

Moreover, the team highlights that Demings voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, “which requires health care providers to give the same medical care to an infant born as a result of a botched abortion as they would to any other child born at the same gestational age.”

Immediately after Justice Alito’s draft of the Supreme Court’s intention to overturn Roe vs. Wade, Demings criticized the decision on the campaign trail.

Speaking to supporters in Jacksonville, Demings shared, “when I decided to start my family I didn’t have the Governor’s permission. I didn’t ask my Congress for permission. I dang sure didn’t ask my Senator’s permission. And they need to get out of our business and leave the personal decisions, the intimate decisions to women.”
