Rick Scott Calls Chuck Schumer a 'Liar and Hack' for Blocking School Safety Legislation

After the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas this week, Democrats did not hesitate to not only attack guns, but the GOP as a whole for being politically and morally responsible for recurring mass shootings.  US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) however, has flipped the script and pressured Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for not passing his school safety bill.

After the 2018 school shooting of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Senator Rick Scott authored the Luke & Alex School Safety Act.  Senator Scott claims to have been, "working for years," to get this piece of legislation passed with the help of one of the Parkland victim's fathers.

Senator Scott on Twitter extended an invitation to Senator Chuck Schumer to meet with father, Max Schachter, to"explain why he blocked this bill & why he’s lying about it now," said Scott.

The online attacks on Schumer started when the New York politician Tweeted blasting Republican legislation and claims that the Senate will vote on, "real solutions."

Scott responded to Schumer's post, calling him a, "liar and a hack."  Even US Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) joined in on the fued, tweeting, "Not surprising that the Democrat leader would lie about the bill he blocked that parents of Parkland victims have been trying to pass for years."  Senator Johnson added, "Dems aren’t looking for solutions, they want wedge issues that they hope will keep them in power. Sick."

In Florida, Rick Scott has arguably been very proactive in battling the mass shooting epidemic in America.  As governor, he famously extended the minimum age to buy a rifle in the state of Florida to 21 years old.  This move definitely angered his base, but ultimately showed the former governor's ability to show action.
