Trump Loyalist Dennis Ross Runs for Congress in Florida

Share

Staunch Trump supporter and former Congressman Dennis Ross (R-FL) has decided to make a return to the political arena.  Rep. Ross recently announced that he is running for Congress again since retiring from that governing body in 2019.

Ross, who was an "always Trumper" credits the actions of the Biden Administration as being the motivating factor that has pushed him to run for Congress again.

Ross sat down with The Floridian this week where he explained why he decided to leave Congress after 8 years.

"When I left things were good.  I wasn't going to make a career out of it, I didn't want to do that.  I figured 8 years was enough, we had low gas prices, we had secure borders, inflation was not only in check, unemployment was also at an incredible low, especially for minorities, we had a military that was an envy of all others, and we were energy independent, things were good and it was time to move on.," said Ross.

The former representative then compared the Trump administration with the Biden administration, citing the glaring policy contrasts.

"If you fast forward to today, I have to go back.  Because I have experience in working with a majority, which should be the Republican majority, in order to secure our borders, in order to regain our energy independence and to have a foreign policy that puts us again as the one who practices peace through strength," Ross added, "I just can't sit on the sidelines when I know I could be a part of the solution."

Ross has also expressed his excitement about the newly-drawn redistricting maps Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law, which will absorb his hometown county of Polk County into his district. The new congressional map in Florida's 15th District includes about 75% of Ross's old congressional district.

"It takes in parts of Polk County, I'm the only one who was born and raised in this district.  Where I grew up and went to school.  It is encouraging because I have a network of contacts in this district and it has offered me an opportunity to rekindle those relationships.  For me, it is a very good district," added Ross.

Ross also characterized himself as one of the most "Ardent" Trump supporters in Congress before he was elected.  Ross was one of the first, if not the first, supporters of former President Donald Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primary race in Florida, and has stayed loyal to the former President ever since.
