Democrats Mobilize to Support Roe vs. Wade

In a move that has shocked the country, it appears that the Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe vs. Wade. The landmark abortion ruling has been the subject of both support and scrutiny for years, and it has once again taken the media by storm. After POLITICO obtained a leaked copy of Justice Alito’s initial draft abortion opinion, a debate over the draft’s authenticity ensued.

However, Justice Roberts has confirmed its authenticity, he has announced an investigation into the leak, and Democrats along with activists have begun mobilizing the protest the Supreme Court’s expected ruling.

Monday night sent shockwaves across the country as it was revealed that the Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

The February 10th draft penned by Justice Alito calls for the country “to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

At first, the draft’s legitimacy was called into question, but Chief Justice Roberts has confirmed the draft is in fact real and that an investigation is under way to uncover how the draft was leaked.

“To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed,” Roberts said in a statement. “The work of the Court will not be affected in any way,” he added.

In response, the intention to overrule has received widespread condemnation from Democrats, who have mobilized protest efforts ahead of the November midterm election.

Taking to Twitter to voice her disapproval, state Senator Annette Taddeo (D) expressed, “I am angry – as a mother, as a daughter, as a woman, as a friend. We will not stand by, and we will not stay silent.”

The gubernatorial hopeful also took part in a press conference, sharing that “growing up in Colombia I saw what happens when people, especially young people don’t have access to safe reproductive care.” She also vowed to “fight hard to make sure that nobody has to make an unsafe choice like my friend did when we were just 12 years old” as Governor of Florida.
