Democrat Dan Daley Rebrands Constitutional Carry 'Permitless Carry'

Share

Florida Republicans have been adamant about making Florida the next state to legalize Constitutional Carry.  However, Democrats are already gearing up to try and stop this.  Democrat Representative Dan Daley (D-97) has already rebranded Constitutional Carry, "Permitless Carry."

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) himself has indicated that he would approve a measure for Constitutional Carry in the state of Florida.  Now, Republican members of the Florida house have strongly advocated for a special session to resolve this.

In a series of Tweet's, Rep. Dan Daley broke down his take on the recent GOP pro-gun effort and rebranded the practice in 25 states, "permitless carry."

"Permitless carry legislation would allow people to carry firearms, openly or concealed, in public places without a permit, criminal history check, or safety training, dismantling Florida’s system of responsible gun ownership" said Daley.  The representative continued, "Permitless carry would also overturn Florida’s longstanding prohibition on openly carrying firearms, including assault rifles, in public."

Daley also provided numbers as to why he opposes the legislation, and not simply because his party opposes the practice.  Daley commented that, "States that have weakened their firearm permitting system have experienced an 11% increase in handgun homicide rates," and added that, "8 States that have weakened their firearm permitting system have also experienced a 13–15% increase in violent crime rates."

"Conversely, states that provided law enforcement discretion to issue permits saw 11% lower homicide rates compared to states that did not... Adopting a permitless law increased the number of officer-involved shootings in the state on average by 12.9% above what was expected."

As an alumni of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, this issue hits home for Representative Daley.  In the 2021 session, Dan Daley pushed for required IDs for Florida public schools to combat atrocities that took place at his alma mater.
