Abortion Group Coaches People Against Using 'Partial-Birth' and 'Born Alive' Terms

Share

As tens of thousands of pro-Choice advocates rallied this past weekend in support of Roe vs. Wade–the historic Supreme Court decision that all but constitute abortion—organizations like Planned Parenthood and the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws (NARAL) continue to push their narrative defending all forms of abortion, including partial-birth abortion and “infanticide.”

The recently leaked Supreme Court opinion that states the highest court would repeal the Roe vs. Wade decision has energized the progressive base of the Democratic Party, but groups like NARAL aren’t taking anything to chance and are putting out talking points for anyone who is put in a position to defend abortions, particularly late-term abortion.

The group has a “How to Respond to Tough Questions and Avoid Anti-Choice Traps Disinformation” memo circulating around, where detailed answers to tough questions on abortions are offered.

The Core Message

“Most of us try to live our lives without interfering in other people’s lives. We know that a woman may end a pregnancy for different reasons. We cannot make a woman’s decisions because we haven’t walked in her shoes. Tragically, sometimes a woman gets a diagnosis of a serious health complication that threatens her life or health. Other times, a family learns later in pregnancy there is a very serious fetal anomaly, or the baby is dying and can’t survive for long. When people are making difficult, complicated, personal medical decisions, one-size-fits-all laws don’t work.”

How to Pivot Away

“It’s wrong to interfere in people’s lives like this, for political reasons. When it comes to abortion or pregnancy loss, legislators in Washington, DC and state capitals can’t know what every family is going through. Real people going through complicated issues are going to be hurt with these one-size-fits-all restrictions. The fact is, their real agenda is about banning abortion with no exceptions. That’s wrong. These politicians are overstepping their role, and women and families don’t deserve to pay the price.”

The memo in question calls for interested parties to keep it simple when asked to answer abortion questions, and keep the focus on making the conversation about “women and families” and not on the actual practice of abortion.

“Don’t say "partial-birth," "late-term," or "born alive,” states the memo when discussing late-stage abortion.

NARAL contends that the notion that abortions are performed up until the moment of birth, stating,” This does not happen.”

The guidance NARAL gives about the question of “infanticide or killing babies who survive an abortion” is that any question about the gruesome practice “was not rooted in medical care or science.”

“Murder of any person, including newborns, is already a crime, as it should be. This question is not rooted in medical care or science, but rather an intentional disinformation campaign,” reads the memo.” Tragically, sometimes a woman gets a diagnosis of a serious health complication that threatens her life or health. Other times, a family learns later in pregnancy there is a very serious fetal anomaly, or the baby is dying and can’t survive for long.”

In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law the controversial 15-week abortion ban legislation, which has now fueled the pro-Choice argument that if the Roe vs. Wade decision is reversed, Gov. Desantis would surely call for a special legislative session to ban abortion.

If Roe vs. Wade is repealed, the decision of allowing or disallowing abortions goes to the states.
