Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) recently co-sponsored the Real Emergencies Act, a measure that was introduced by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV). This bill is in response to lawmakers on the left calling on President Joe Biden (D) to use a declaration of a national emergency for political purposes. According to the bill, the Real Emergencies Act “clarifies that the president does not have the authority to declare a national emergency on the premise of climate change.”
Rick Scott tweeted on Sunday about his cosponsorship of the bill and the left’s “far-left agenda.”
“Radical Green New Deal policies are a prime example of how out of touch Democrat-controlled Washington is with reality. It’s time to pass my and @Sencapito’s Real Emergencies Act & put an end to Democrats’ plans to use this fake outrage to push their far-left agenda,” stated Sen. Scott.
The Capito press release includes rationales for the bill. Including but not limited to statements such as;
“Instead of limiting our ability to be energy independent as extreme environmental groups are demanding, Congress should take steps to strengthen our national security by implementing…energy policies that include our competitive advantage in fossil fuel production,” stated Sen. Capito.
The announcement of the cosponsorship by Scott comes just days after cosponsoring a letter with fellow Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) asking for environmental funding in Florida for projects in the Everglades such as the Central Everglades Planning Project and the Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir Project.
In a statement, the Congressional Latino-Jewish Caucus denounced the decision, calling it "inflammatory and unwarranted."
