Rubio, Scott Call for Environmental Funding in Florida

Share

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rick Scott (R-FL) have cosigned a letter to the Army Corps insisting upon proper funding towards various Florida projects such as the Central Everglades Planning Project and the Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir project before the Army Corp of Engineers finalizes their work plan.

They penned in the letter, “As you finalize the planning and selection process for efforts that will receive funding in fiscal year 2022, we request that all proposed and ongoing projects in Florida receive full and fair consideration of their value to local communities, our state, and our nation.”

The letter written to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Michael Connor, ends with the notion that “Floridians depend on” these projects to be fully funded and completed.

“Floridians depend on the expertise and diligence of the USACE – often in partnership with non-federal interests – to study, design, construct, maintain, and operate important water resources infrastructure across the Sunshine State. Thank you for your consideration of these essential projects," stated Sens. Rubio and Scott.

Earlier this year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Sen. Rubio, Reps. Byron Donalds and Brian Mast, all pressed the Biden administration. for Everglades restoration funding.  DeSantis announced state funding for a restoration project towards the Everglades and called for President Biden’s help for federal funding.
