Rubio Responds to the "Disinformation Governance Board"

Share

Since the Elon Musk purchase of Twitter, there has been a national conversation about the limits of free speech and how they play a part in our society. Perhaps in response to the Musk purchase (who has promised to make Twitter less regulated in terms of censorship), within the Department of Homeland Security, President Joe Biden (D) and his administration have established what they call the “Disinformation Governance Board.” According to an article by Aaron Blake for The Washington Post, the board has been linked to multiple usages.

“Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas mentioned the creation of the board in multiple congressional hearing this week. In one, he linked it to efforts to combat misinformation from human smugglers. In another, he said it would be used to counter Russian cyber and election misinformation” wrote Blake. He would go on to mention, 19“Many on the right likened it to the “Ministry of Truth” from George Orwell’s book ‘1984.’ They’ve also questioned the fitness of the board’s executive director, Nina Jankowicz, who has in the past supported Democrats, praised efforts to crack down on coronavirus misinformation on social media and expressed skepticism about the provenance of Hunter Biden’s laptop.”

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) stated in a tweet that

“I never believed I would ever see the day America had a federal law enforcement agency to police speech But that day has come”

And then later added,

“Nothing else we are working on will matter if we don’t put an end to the Biden’s  Ministry of Truth”

The right for years now has been trying to prove that the left is Orwellian and that they are cracking down on free speech. Perhaps politically, the institution that Biden has created will be a gift for Republicans come November.
