Moskowitz Raises $665K, Solidifies Congressional Frontrunner Status

Share

When Rep. Ted Deutch (D) announced that he would not seek reelection to the U.S. Congress, all eyes looked on Broward County Commissioner Jared Moskowitz as being his natural successor. Moskowitz, a former state legislator, and DeSantis Administration official, has just elevated himself to frontrunner status by raising $665,641 for his congressional campaign

Moskowitz’s $647,601.66 cash on hand is daunting, especially if you are a Democrat thinking about jumping into the race.

While State Senator Gary Farmer appears to still be thinking about challenging Moskowitz, former Navy Officer and current City of Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Ben Sorensen, is all in.

Sorensen filed to run for Rep. Deutch’s congressional seat but isn’t reporting money raised because he jumped into the race after the Q1 fundraising cycle closed.

Besides sitting a  mountain of campaign cash, Moskowitz is racking up the endorsements.

Democratic Progressive Reps. Anna Eskamani and Carlos Guillermo Smith, State Senator Shevrin Jones, Reps. Evan Jenne and Dan Daley, and Senate Minority Leader Lauren Book, have all endorsed.

State Rep. Chip LaMarca (R) is still looking at possibly running for the open congressional seek, but considering how the newly proposed congressional district performed in the 2022 presidential election, LaMarca may not run for Congress.

According to the map, the district goes from being a D+5 to a comfortable and safe Democratic seat (D+13).

Businessman and 2022 Republican congressional nominee Jim Pruden, has raised $130, 793.76 this cycle, with $97,656.26 of that amount coming in the form of a loan to his campaign.

Conservative Activist Darlene Swaffar has outraised Pruden, posting $142,704.56. Swaffar has $64,719.56 cash on hand.

Even as the 2022 midterm elections look as if Republicans will summarily trounce Democrats across the country, winning a D+7 or more congressional seat is a heavy list.
