Val Demings
Senate hopeful Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) has outraised incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for the fourth consecutive quarter according to her campaign. In the second quarter of 2021 when Demings first entered the race, the former Orlando Chief of Police outraised Rubio by $500,000. In the first quarter of 2022, she outraised him by $4.2 million.
“We are building the most robust campaign Rubio has ever faced, and we’re dedicated to electing 27-year law enforcement officer Chief Demings to the United States Senate and holding career politician Marco Rubio accountable for putting his party bosses above everyday Floridians,” said Zack Carrol, Demings campaign manager.
The Demings campaign also announced that the Congresswoman also has about 100k more cash-on-hand.
However, Demings still has major ground to make up for as she is still 9 points behind according to the Real Clear Politics average. Some polls have her as far down as 12 points. However, she has plenty of time to make up that margin. If this election were a sporting event, she’d be down a little bit more than a touchdown right before halftime. However, in her case, she does not have home-field advantage. Perhaps she'll make some second-half adjustments.
