When Gov. Ron DeSantis tapped State Senator Manny Diaz, Jr. to replace Richard Corcoran as the state’s new Commissioner of Education, State Rep. Bryan Avila (R) became the clear choice to fill Sen. Diaz’s shoes.

The Floridian has learned from a source that Avila, who is currently a candidate for the Miami-Dade County Commission, appears to be eyeing Diaz’s open senate seat and could make a political pivot to that seat in the coming weeks.

We reached out to Avila to confirm the speculation but the lawmaker could not be reached for comment.

This story is developing.
