The United States, Israel, and four Arab governments met to discuss economic and diplomatic relations this past Monday in the Negev Desert in southern Israel. Most would agree that peace in the Middle East is an upstanding goal.
The idea that a meeting took place at all is a success all in its own. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) shared an article on Twitter from The Washington Post relaying facts about the meeting. However, according to that article, “The presence of top diplomats…showed a new level of comfort between Israel and its Arab neighbors even though the parties did not sign any binding agreements or specific policies.”
“Thrilled to see the historic #Negev_Summit where the US, Israel, Arab, and Gulf states are rejecting terrorism and committing to cooperation. This is what normalization looks like," stated Rep. Wasserman Schultz.
Peace in the Middle East is a great aspiration and can be credited to former President Donald Trump's effort to negotiate a peace deal between Israel and four Arab nations.
This deal, commonly known as the “Abraham Accords” was a signed deal that ensured peace between Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco.
