Waltz: Biden Should Address 'a Clear Red Line' on WMDs

President Joe Biden (D) has expressed the United States' support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. While this has drawn bipartisan praise, a bipartisan call has also noted that the Biden Administration should do more. In an op-ed for Fox News, Florida Rep. Michael Waltz (R) discussed the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, calling  on President Biden to address "a clear red line on weapons of mass destruction in Ukraine."

This week, President Biden announced that the U.S. would be directing $800 million worth of weapons to Ukraine. This includes "800 shoulder-fired stinger anti-aircraft weapons." However, a bipartisan effort is arguing that the Biden administration should extend more help, and some lawmakers are warning that Russia using weapons of mass destruction is a grave concern.

Sharing his thoughts in a Fox News op-ed, Rep. Waltz warned that the administration "cannot afford to make the same mistakes of the Obama-Biden administration in allowing such inhumane attacks to take place." Moreover, the Florida Republican expressed that "President Biden needs to draw a clear red line... and make it known to Kremlin officials that the United States will not stand for the use of weapons of mass destruction and detail the 'devastating consequences' he recently promised."

Waltz argues that the Biden Administration should be wary of attempting the same "red line" call that the Obama Administration made with the Assad regime, which resulted in the Assad regime using chemical weapons. He added that "the Obama-Biden administration's refusal to act on such barbaric attacks will forever stain our credibility."

The same "mistakes" being repeated is of concern to Waltz because "many of the same officials who advised Obama now occupy the highest levels of the Biden Administration, including Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, and Susan Rice."

In turn, Waltz says that addressing this concern amidst the war between Russia and Ukraine would result in "redemption" for Biden and the officials.
