USA Today columnist, Michael J. Stern, took this apparent disdain against Florida's Parental Rights in Education bill to a whole new level after he cheered on a tornado that damaged the home of State Rep. Joe Harding (R-22), the bill's author.
Stern even attributed the damage to God Himself.
Rep. Harding authored the bill, also branded the "Don't Say Gay," bill by the opposition. This legislation gained the attention of Saturday Night Live, President Biden (D), the Walt Disney Corporation, and the entire state of Florida.
Stern posted a Tweet that gained attention quickly that attacked Representative Harding and his bill all in one shot.
"I'm not a believer, but the tornado that just ripped apart the home of the author of Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' law is making me reconsider. Hey, Joe Harding (@josephbharding), God thinks you're a rotten bigot and just b---h-slapped you," he wrote.
The Harding's tornado-ravaged district left businesses and homes in Ocala, Florida in terrible condition.
Stern has stood by his remarks, and Harding has not budged on any rhetoric surrounding his bill despite immense criticism.
"The second thing is that it creates a course of action for the parent who is dealing with a school district that has decided they are going to become the parent. They’re going to take your student that has anxiety and stress and mental concerns maybe even talking about self harm and they’re going to put them in mental health and take steps to change the services at the school and protect that student from themselves but never engage with the parent. That’s just wrong so our bill seeks to remedy that," Harding told Fox News.
The bill passed in the Florida Senate last week and is expected to be signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
