Rubio Team Chides Demings’ ‘Unaffordability Tour’

Share

Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) has been on the campaign trail, making her pitch as to why Floridians deserve to vote out Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R). However, on the week that the Senatorial hopeful launched her “Affordability Tour,” the Rubio campaign is now criticizing Rubio’s challenger, arguing that her tour should be called “Unaffordability” because of her past support for "less affordable" policies.

In a press release, the team noted that "Val Demings is kicking off what she’s laughably calling an ‘Affordability Tour’ today, hoping that name will somehow absolve her of all the times she’s voted to make life less affordable for Floridians.”

As a congressional member, the Rubio team cited a number of measures that Demings has supported, which has allegedly contributed to economic concerns.

The team comments that Demings “championed Biden’s multi-trillion dollar Build Back Socialist agenda, voting to hike taxes on working families while cutting taxes for millionaires in blue states like New York and California.” They also argue that she “voted against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which doubled the child tax credit for working families thanks to Senator Rubio” while also noting that she “voted for the Congressional Progressive Caucus’ Green New Deal, which would add a $10.25 per barrel tax on oil.”

Amidst concerns over the Biden administration seeking an alternative oil source in Venezuela over Russia, the Florida Republican has slammed his senatorial opponent, arguing that she was not quick to denounce the move.

“Val Demings has consistently voted to increase taxes on and drive up costs for Floridians,” said Elizabeth Gregory, the communications director for Marco Rubio for Senate.

In a statement, Gregory commented that “inflation and gas prices are at record high under Democrats’ poor leadership, and yet Demings votes with the Socialist Squad 94% of the time.”

Because of her voting record, Gregory asserts that “there’s only one candidate in this race who has consistently worked to make life more affordable for Florida families, and that’s Marco Rubio.”
