Elvira Salazar Hosts Dignity Act Roundtable

Share

After a heated exchange on FOX News with Tucker Carlson over the Dignity act, Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) continues to praise the bill. This week, Rep. Elvira Salazar held a roundtable discussion with numerous Miami community leaders, arguing that the Dignity Act tackles “the complex problems our country faces around immigration.”

In a press release detailing the meeting, it’s explained that the bill consists of 3 core principles, which are “stopping illegal immigration, providing a dignified solution for immigrants living in America, and strengthening the American workforce and economy.”

The meeting was comprised of “representation from a diverse set of activists and leaders from various Miami stakeholder groups including the Honduran-American, the Venezuelan-American, the Columbian-American, and the Nicaraguan-American communities, as well immigration attorneys, faith leaders, economic empowerment advocates and mental health advocates.” While the bill was praised in the meeting, some conservative commentators like Carlson have argued that it provides amnesty.

However, the bill has gained bipartisan support in the House, and Elvira Salazar continues to champion the legislation.

“As your voice in Washington, I am working diligently to solve one of the most complex issues in our community and across American,” said Elvira Salazar in a statement. “That is why [I] introduced the Dignity Act, which fully secures our border and addresses the systemic issues in our immigration system through common sense solutions.”

The press release provides further information regarding the bill, explaining that it “is the only realistic solution proposed in Congress that fully secures the border, reestablishes law and order in our immigration system, enacts a 10-year Dignity Program providing renewable legal status, and offers an additional optional redemption path to permanent legalization.”

The release adds that “this reasonable and compassionate approach will finally fix an immigration system that has been broken for decades.”
